Detailed Biography of Mimi Lee
CEA, EPC, Founder & Chief Financial Consultant
Mimi began her stint in the financial services world in mid-2003, as an outside-sales agent with Clarica (Sun Life), on the insurance side. A life-changing experience charted the course for her passion in the industry, and today, she holds her own practice under the name – TruFinancial Consultants.
Mimi’s actual involvement in the industry, however, could be traced back to her work history in Hong Kong, as an editor for the financial newspaper Economic Times, and as a moderator with a stock forum at the time – ExchangeHK.com. This is where Mimi got her first taste of the investment world, and developed a knack for ‘blogging’ about hot topics related to the stock market, as she pursued every financial lead, hot off the press. Much of this passion can still be seen today, off her website at www.trufinancial.ca, where she uses Twitter daily to share her thoughts on the latest financial trends, and to keep her clients updated on hot topics in the investment world.
Today Mimi successfully holds portfolios for a wide cross-section of clients, helping them get out of debt, keeping them debt-free and planning for their savings and retirement. She has an endearing quality that helps her connect with people on a very basic level, and is a trademark signature of hers, which keeps her clients continuously interested in her sound financial advice.
Why in the world of Financial Services?
Had it not been for a life-changing experience in mid-2003, Mimi might have been somewhere in the world of politics raging war against escalating food prices and citizens’ rights – another of her great passions! What spurred her deep passion and interest for the industry, however, was her own personal story.
It started with a job-related injury in mid-2003, where a fall from a chair at the office, left Mimi with crippling back pain and no health coverage or WSIB benefits, being a new employee at the company.
She was financially paralyzed for a few months, forced to live off her credit with no other source of income. It was at this point, that Mimi began to realize the importance of having a sound ‘financial plan’ and ‘proper coverage’ in place.
During this reflective period, Mimi was introduced by a friend (another advisor with Clarica – now Sun Life), to sell life insurance. Unsure of her ‘selling’ skills and reluctant to try something completely new, Mimi cancelled the interview to meet with the Training Manager, only to be quickly persuaded by him (through expert sales tactics) to consider attending with an open mind. She agreed….
This forever changed the course of Mimi’s career. She achieved ‘QuickStart’ status (a sales recognition) at Clarica in the first 3 months of the insurance business, gaining her license to sell mutual funds and entering that side of the business, 2 years later.
Today, Mimi’s business – TruFinancial Consultants – thrives successfully after 10 years - an ever-present reminder of a dream achieved through personal struggle and a passion to help others avoid walking the same path…
