What is my CPP going to look like?

on Fri, 01/27/2012 - 16:31

I have been asked quite a few times in the last 2 weeks regarding how to get information on personal CPP... So I decided to put up a blog post on it :)

Some people might ask, I am nowhere close to retirement, why do I want the information on my CPP? Why do I care? Yes, you do... Retirement planning is a long term strategy, you definitely don't want to look into that until you are 2 years away from your retirement. We are all entitled to Canada's benefit, especially when we have work and build the country over the years, we want to strategize so that we get most out of our Old Age Security (OAS), and maybe even Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)...

Information on CPP is needed to request from the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. Under Service Canada, you can set up an online account and get information on your own CPP Statement of Contributions http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/isp/common/proceed/socinfo.shtml (so that you know how much is in your CPP).

In order to be able to check your information online, you have to set up an online account with the Service Canada. To set up the online account, you have to obtain a personal access code.

Follow the instructions on the link http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/online/pac/pacinfo.shtml, you will get to a page asking for some of your personal information (so make sure you have your SIN with you).

The access code to your online access will be mailed to you. Once you have the code, you can then register for a Service Canada account at http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/online/mysca_byp.shtml

After you register, then you can log into the account and get the information....

Once you login, you will find you can access all kinds of tax and emplyment relatedinformation on you with the Canadian Government.

YAY!!

Yes, it does take some effort to put all these information together. The tru-th is: we are always looking out for our clients and expecially when they ask us questions, we try hard to find an answer or a solution to their questions. Once we have the info, we post it up as a blog post to benefit our readers - like you :)
