A recent change on Service Canada's web access

on Fri, 02/22/2013 - 18:22

I previously wrote a post What is my CPP going to look like? on how to set up your account with Service Canada, so that you can check how your CPP looks and see your "Record of Employment"s online.

So, it turns out they have made changes recently. We no longer need "Access Key" to get into the site. On the My Service Canada Account page (http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/online/mysca.shtml), you either a first-time user or a returning user, for those who had an access key already, the transition steps are pretty straight forward.

New steps to registration for access to Service Canada's My Account

If you are a first-time user, you will have to register. Click on the line "Are you a first-time user? Register now!"
This will bring you to a registation page.
Initially, I thought while "The Access Key service is no longer available", the registration process is now easiler. Actually, all they had done (to me at least) is changed the name (maybe the system at the back), but the process is pretty much the same... Oh well... here we go.

You still have to request a Personal Access Code, which still, you need:
- you SIN;
- your first and last name;
- your date of birth;
- your mother's median name and
- your address postal code (make sure you include the space in between)
After that, you will be brought to the Privacy Notice Statement, press "continue" at the buttom of the page. That gets you to the actual page (which was the old site) you need to enter all those info we mentioned.
Lastly, you get to the page to enter your postal code
And BOOM!! you have to wait till the Personal Access Code to mail to you.... Oh well, still can't get away from the mailing part.
In about 10 days, you will receive the Personal Access Code in the mail, then you use that code and go back to Access My Service Canada Account page (http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/online/mysca_credential.shtml), scroll to the bottom, choose the right option under "Login with GCKey"
It will bring you to the Login page, but since you don't have a GCKey as yet, you will click "Register" on the menu at the left, and register for one. Agree to the terms and condition, and finally, you are creating the username and password for Service Canada's My Account access. When you are done with this, you will go back to the "old site" and confirm you are registering....
Then you get to the "Authentication"page and finally the Personal Access Code you got in the mail is needed.
And after a thousand pages of submitting, accepting terms and conditions, redirecting and stuff, we are in the Service Canada's system and able to check your CPP information....
Whew!
